What does this mean?
You’re now able to remarket search ads to those who have watched your YouTube Videos. We did a RLSA tutorial a while back, but this is a bit different. We’re now going to implement video.
Basically, it means your YouTube channel and your videos are becoming much more relevant. You are now able to create Remarketing Lists on search for those who have watched any videos on your channel. This is how it works.
Viewer watches one of your YouTube videos.
Viewer goes to google to search for the product or service you offer.
They see your ad at the top of search.
Why should you care?
Because you get more touches with a potential buyer, patient or client. You’re also able to bid higher and have a wider range of keywords that you otherwise might not be able to afford. Bid high and go broad. (I like to get very aggressive on competitor keywords.)
I know this can be confusing. Especially if you are not familiar with RLSA ads. I am familiar with them and I’m still having a hard time explaining this…:)
Let me show you how Video Remarketing Lists For Search works. Let’s set up our first campaign.

Hey, what’s up? Jace over here at Marketing High and today we are going to go over RLSA, ads for videos. This is something that just came out on July 13th, it is new. It has not been around now. RLSA ads have been around for a long time, but, this is a little bit different, because, now you’re able to run RLSA ads to people who’ve viewed your videos.
That’s the difference. Before, you could always run them to people who visited your site, now you’re able to run those to people who’ve actually looked at your videos, been on your YouTube channel. It’s a big, big step.
I want to show you this. Let’s assume that you own an addiction rehab recovery center and somebody is over here watching your videos. Okay, I know, New Roads. Eric does a lot of good videos. We’ve shot a few of them, but if somebody is on their YouTube channel, you can see that they got a lot of videos over here. Let’s say they watch this video here that they just launched three days ago.
Well, this video is just talking about one of their worker’s story. She came to the rehab, got fixed up, I mean, great story. If I watch that video and then I’m over, looking for an addiction recovery center … addiction, recovery, center. So then, if I Google addiction recovery center, because I have watched this video on New Roads, now, they should pop up at the very top. They can bid a lot higher for keywords and I’m more likely to buy.
Whenever you do remarketing, if they’re visiting you at third, fourth, fifth time, it’s just that more likely they’re going to convert. I always tell people they need multiple touches. These new video ads that have come out allow for multiple touches. You really want to do them. I’m going to show you how to set one up.
First thing you want to do is have a good YouTube channel that is step number one. Have a good YouTube channel and this YouTube channel needs to be attached to your AdWords account. There’s just a lot of things you need to have done. You need to have your website attached up here. Make sure you have a good call to action. Then, produce really good videos. People are watching all of these videos.
Now, the next thing you’re going to do is jump over here to your campaign … How bout we do it. I’m just going to set one up. The first thing you’re going to want to do is set up over here on your shared library, you’re going to click audiences, then you’re going to click on your remarketing list right here. You’re going to go to YouTube users and viewed any video from your channel, viewed video from channel. Okay, we’re going to hold everyone on here for 300 days and then we’re going to create that list.
Now, right here, anyone’s who watching a video … I probably already have those down here, but anyone who watches a video from our YouTube channel is now going to be on this list. Next thing you need to do is jump over here on your campaigns, you’re going to click search network, ’cause remember, we’re now going to create a campaign for search. So, if they type in anything to do with addiction recovery, addiction rehab, we’re going to show up, we’re going to bid high, because we want to make sure that somebody who’s been on our YouTube channel is now seeing our ads.
We’re going to go … Okay, now let’s go through, leave that, we’re not going to use that. I like to do all features. Blast, nope, it’s fine. Got it, got it. I usually click off, I don’t like to be included on their search partners, just don’t. You can go to your locations. Let’s say, obviously we want more United States, you could go down to all the way into each state, zip code, whatever you want to do here. Just depends on your budget, what you want to maximize.
Default, we’re going to go $10 and we’re going to go $20 a day. Click on … I always like to accelerate, just ’cause I want my ad showing and I want to know how often they can show. You will want your locations, you’ll want your … All this stuff, you’ll want to make sure you do. Just develop a good ad. I’m not going to go into that, there’s some other videos out there that will go into that, just make sure the ad is really, really good. Have your extensions, have your call extension, have your call-outs, have your services, those all need to be included. Nope. I’m sorry.
I’m going to come back and create that ad here in a second. This is the big part. Normally you want to be really, really strict on your keywords. Especially in the rehab, you’re going to be paying anywhere from 60 to $100 just to get this keyword. Well, what you can do, since you’re only going to be targeting those who have visited your YouTube channel and watched your videos, you can be very broad here. We can just add almost everything, which, normally you don’t do this. Just to make sure you…
We’re going really, really broad. We’re going to hit every keyword we can or combination of keywords.
Okay. Now, once you’ve saved those, then, what you want to do is jump over here to your audiences. We’re going to click here on our audience and we’re going to go down here to ad group. You can do it campaign. Let’s just do campaign, because it’s set up under campaign. Interest and remarketing, then you’re going to click right here on video view list. It’s updating right now.
I just set up this list a second ago, you’re going to send that over to that side. And then it’s target and bid or bid only. Add these lists or categories so I can set bids on them, but show ads when my other targeting methods.
We’re going to go to target and bid. Show ads only to people associated with these lists or categories. That basically … If you do this, it opens up the door to anyone, so you want to target and bid, that’s important. Then you hit save. That is it. That’s how you’re going to out there and set up a RLSA search ad for your YouTube viewers.

Remarketing is good, but video remarketing is amazing. It’s extremely under utilized and simple to implement. This post is going to walk you through how to set up a full video marketing campaign.
Video remarketing is a powerful and cost-effective way to show ads to people who have already interacted with your website and YouTube videos. The benefits include:
Reminds people about your product or service
Builds deeper relationships
Keeps your brand in front of them
Lowers your cost per conversion
Here’s quick overview of how it works.
A visitor comes to your website or your YouTube channel and takes a peek into your product or service. They look around, but leave without taking any type of action. Although this is frustrating, 87% of visitors are going to bounce off of your website and never come back.
This does not mean that they are not interested. We just need to be more proactive and keep our message in front of them.
A person like me takes 10 to 12 touches before I decide to make a purchasing decision. Especially, if it’s a big one. A touch is considered an email, video, text, phone call, etc.
We tend to give up way to soon on our prospective buyers.
“Visitors who return to your sites dramatically outperform new visitors. New visitors spend an average of 2 minutes 31 seconds onsite, compared with 5 minutes 31 seconds for returning visitors. This is a difference of over 100%. When looking at pages viewed per visit, we see that new visitors view an average of 3.88 pages per visit, but return visitors look at 5.55 pages per visit.

YouTube Display Network (YouTube Video) vs Google Display (Banner Ads)
“YouTube outperforms all other networks and is the only social network that has both better time on site and more pages viewed per visit than the site average. Therefore, video should be seriously considered as a medium for growing brand awareness and for connecting with potential new customers.”
We recommend using both a video remarketing ad and a simple banner ad. It doesn’t need to be an either or. You will get a much higher return on investment with a video ad, but don’t abandon your banner ad campaign.
What Does A Good Banner Ad Looks Like?
I want to show you what a good banner ad looks like. The goal is conversion not pretty.
Banner ads can show up all around the internet on different websites. You can hand pick the sites you want or allow google to pick them for you.
If you allow Google to pick your placement, you’ll show up on kids sites, gaming website, and random anonymous sites. This has always been a huge problem with display ads. You never really know if they are being seen. We know this.
Half of paid online display ads have never been seen by a human.
Agencies get kickbacks from display networks.
Bot traffic is used to trick the advertisers out of more money and to increase the
bottom line of both the agency and the network.
Now for the fun part. You can use remarketing for video campaigns similarly to the way you’d use them for Display Network or Search Network campaigns.
Video remarketing requires that you have a really good explainer video. You can get one from Ydraw if you need a good one, or you can create your own. It doesn’t matter.
But what does matter is:
Your copy (the video script)
Your Headline (Does it grab attention?)
The Story (Why should they care?)
Your Solution (How are you going to solve their problem?)
Call To Action (What exact step do you want them to take?)
The video can be 30 seconds or 10 minutes. It’s totally up to you. The most important thing is that you have one.
Here’s some examples.
Here’s what Zendesk could do with this video. A visitor comes to the the website and gets a cookie placed on their browser. Zendesk can now run the video above as a YouTube remarketing ad.
So when the visitor is watching a simple music video, they will be served up a Zendesk ad. After the visitor watches the ad, Zendesk could then remarket with another video. Like this one:
That’s 3 touches, 7 more to go..:)
My only complaint is the fact that Zendesk has a lousy call to action at the end of their videos. They never ask the viewer to do anything.
They say it’s “branding,” but it’s a mistake. Ask your audience to take action.
Let’s look at another example. This is something simple that Grant Cardone could do with a Video Remarketing Campaign.
Currently he is pitching his $5000 retreat in Miami.
When it comes to spending $5000 on a retreat, you have to plan on multiple touches.
Step 1. Mr. Cardone needs a video.
Grant could record a simple video that would invite you to come back and take a second look. The video doesn’t need to be some expensive master piece. He can pull out his phone and shoot a video in 2 minutes.
It would be helpful to offer a promotion to visitors that did not buy. Something with urgency.
Step 2: Upload the video to YouTube.
Mr. Cardon would then have to head on over to YouTube and upload the video. All YouTube video campaigns pull from YouTube videos. You need a good YouTube channel.
Step 3: Setup the remarketing campaign. (instruction below)

I love it!
With video ads, you’re able to deliver an exact message to people who have already shown interest in your product or service.
note: This can also be done with a remarketing campaign on Facebook, but that’s for another day.
How To Set Up A Video Remarketing Campaign.
Make sure your Google Analytics code is on your website. You can also use Adwords or tag manager.
I am going to give you the 10 steps to set up your video retargeting campaign with adwords. After, you can watch the video and actually see how it’s done.
Connect your YouTube account to your Google AdWords account
Log into your AdWords account
Click “Shared library > Audiences > View
Add a remarketing tag to your web page
Create a remarketing list
Set-up a new Video Ads Campaign
Under “Video Targeting” select “Remarketing”
Select the remarketing list you previously created
Watch and adjust according.
You can use remarketing for video campaigns similarly to the way you’d use them for Display Network or Search Network campaigns. There are specific remarketing list types that are tailored to help you show your ads to people who’ve been to your website and have seen your YouTube videos.
**A Note From Google”
It’s important to be careful using multiple types of targeting. If you use more than one targeting method at a time, AdWords will apply them all. For example, if you target a specific keyword, age, and channel, your ads will only be shown when all those methods match your ad at the same time. This can restrict your impressions significantly. Therefore, it’s not recommended to pair remarketing lists with multiple types of targeting, like demographics or interests. It’s best to target broadly, and opt in to all video ad formats.
**A remarketing list must have at least 100 active visitors within the last 30 days before you can show an ad to people on the list.**

What’s up, guys. This is Jace over here at Marketing Hy and today we’re going to go over how to set up a video remarketing campaign. This goes along with a blog. It’s going to be quick. If you want to jump over to the blog, you can find that at marketinghy.com.
If you’re here already, great, welcome. I’m going to show you how to set this up.
The reason you want a video remarketing campaign is because with remarketing you’re able to bring those people back to your site. A person like me takes multiple touches before I decide to buy a product or service, especially if it’s expensive.
If you’re getting into the thousands of dollars, you need to always be in front of these customers and get a minimum of eight to thirteen touches before they’re going to buy. The best way to do that is one, not only to show them banner ads, which banner ads really aren’t that effective.
You need to jump over and do an actual video remarketing campaign, so that they can hear your message, they can watch your message, and it’s just cool. I love it when I go to a website and then I’m over on a YouTube video or a music video or something like that, and their message pops up in front. It doesn’t happen that often, a lot of companies are not using this.
I’m going to show you how to actually set up this video remarketing campaign.
Video Ad Campaign
First thing you want to do is set up audience, so over here under ‘shared library’, click your audiences, and we are going to set up a list. So you click here and just say, “I’m going to set up website visitors.” You’ll have to … they’re going to give you a tag. If you haven’t done so already, you need to put that tag on your website, and it’s a simple code, very easy to do. You can do it yourself or have your web guy do it. You’re going to name this list, we can call it ‘video remarketing’.
I already got plenty of these, so I’m not going to do it here. Visitors of a page, you can tell it the exact page you want them to visit. You can extend this out 30 days. What I like to do, I like to set up a 7, 14, 30, 90, 180, I set up a ton of different remarketing campaigns or audiences.
Once that audience is set up, you can just jump over here and go to campaigns. Under ‘campaigns’ we’re going to put a new video campaign. Let’s label this ‘remarketing’, ‘video remarketing’ better.
Scroll down. You’ll want to do it on in-stream or video discovery ads. We’re just going to put ten dollars a day. We’ll leave it here, YouTube search, YouTube videos. Now, the difference here is the YouTube search is going to show up in the right-hand columns or sometimes up at the top. The YouTube videos, this is going to show in-stream.
And then since I am doing a video remarketing campaign, I don’t care, you can leave these ones on. United States, simple, you can put ‘ad delivery’. Always do a frequency cap, so two views a day is fine. You don’t want to bombard people, and impressions you can always say two or three impressions per day. That might be too much for some of you. Save. Remarketing.
Now here’s you’re going to pick your video, so this one actually is a really good one right here. I’m going to do in-stream. Ideally, what you’d like to do is drive them to an actual landing page. With video remarketing ads you always should have a good strong call to action on the end of your video, and then also drive them to a landing page. If you don’t have that right now, great. Just keep them coming back to your site. You can put your site information there. We’re going to go six cents.
Actually, since it is remarketing, I’m going to go higher, 13 cents. Popular videos, don’t mess with that. I will then click over here. Any interest, okay. We don’t want it to pop up to any interest, but that’s … yeah, we’re going to leave it on the interest. Here we go, video remarketing list. Now, a video remarketing list, these are people who’ve watched certain videos. Like if they’ve viewed this video, I’m hitting them up with a cookie.
Video Remarketing Lists
So, there’s a video remarketing list or your AdWords remarketing list. The one we just set up was an AdWords, and I can say, okay, visitors for the last 90 days. Bam, done. Okay? That is it, so very simple. That is how you’re going to set up a video remarketing campaign. A couple of things you want to be aware of, you need to have at least 100 people on your list before it’s going to show. Another thing is, you don’t want to start adding all of these interests, placements and everything into this. Your target is your remarketing. Separate those things out. Don’t put everything on one campaign, that can cause some issues.

Hey, this is Jace over here at Marketing High. We are going to discuss how a small business can use video marketing to get more customers. This video is going to be four small businesses. I do deal a lot with small businesses.
Basically, the hardest thing for them is getting new customers, getting their product out there, getting their message out there. I’m going to show you guys how you can use video and how you can do it effectively. If you’re bootstrapping the company, if you’re tight on a budget looking to get the best deal, or pay very little for advertising, this video is for you. We’re going to jump right in. If you have questions, obviously you can always get ahold of us at MarketingHigh.com. This is the second time shooting this. I screwed up the first time. For some reason the voice went out ten minutes into the, well three minutes into the video and it was like, 15 minutes. We’ll try to get this done in three minutes.
1. Get A Video For You Business
First off, very first thing. If you’re a small business you have to get used to video marketing. You have to get comfortable with video. Your number one step is, get a video. Another day I was listening to a podcast by Rick Mulready. It’s called The Art of Paid Traffic.
He had a guest on that … Basically, this guest did Facebook ads for fitness places like Vasa. I don’t know if they’re big yoga studios, stuff like that. He went on to discuss how, he works with a client they have to do video. He said, “If they’re not willing to do video usually I cannot work with them. I can’t get the ROI.” He had one client that they spent like 2 to 6 thousand on ads. They turned it into $200,000 profit.
His main thing was, you have to use video. I’m the same way. I tell these companies, you have to be using video because it’s popular. You’re very first thing you need to do it get a video. Now, does it need to be some expensive $20,000 video? No. I do own a company, Ydraw.com.
We started the whole white board animation videos. We do videos over there. They can be expensive for some. They’re very cheap for others. A video doesn’t have to be expensive. You can shoot one on your iPhone. You can get it done professionally. Or you can go over to Fiverr and purchase one.
If you guys aren’t familiar with Fiverr, you can just jump over here. Let me show you. I’ll make this a little bigger for you. I’ve tried this just to see if I could get some really good response.
I had this girl right here. Her name is Ally. Ally Madison. You can check out what she does. She just did a simple promotional video. I wanted a re-marketing campaign and right here you can just play this. That’s her right there. Simple way to get something done. Like I said, five to $20 to get you a video. Now, almost all videos need to have a good headline, problem. Tell them what problem you’re solving, how you’re going to solve it, and a good, strong call to action. I have videos on that for you if you want to check them out.
Don’t worry about spending a huge amount of money. Let me show you a couple things. This is a video. If you’re not familiar, Tai Lopez, he has millions of views on his videos. He buys a lot of them, but you can see what he does, he’s very popular. This is a phone. This is an ad. This is an actual ad playing in front of a motivational video. Okay. He’s telling you how to make six figures. Now, say, on this motivational channel, here you got a guy named … I’ll let you hear it.
Since it is a lifestyle motivational, make a lot of money … They’re playing these on these how-to-succeed-in-life. These guys right here are going to show you how to succeed in life. Well, they’re running their video ads in front of these videos that show you how to succeed in life. Very simple.
Here’s a group, two girls. You can see, very simple. Now, this last video, this could be expensive. He shoots some pretty expensive ones. Here’s two that just, I mean, it’s a camera.
They introduce themselves.
They’re from Australia. Now, they’re playing their video ad right in front of, once again, these motivational videos. Okay. Something that everyone can do. Small businesses could do them. They aren’t expensive. Let’s say I skip this ad. I’m going to skip that ad. Great. That did not cost them anything. They got their brand out there and there’s nothing. Now, if I watch that video out past 30 seconds, you’re going to get charged eight cents, ten cents. Okay. The very first thing you need to do is get a video.
2. Upload Your Video To YouTube
Secondly, you need to upload that video to YouTube. Now, crap. If I could go back to that sister video. Let’s see if we can get them up again. No, that’s Ty. Here’s Tai Lopez again, showing off Ferrari’s and stuff like that. Let’s look at his channel. If you go to Tai Lopez.
We’re going to go to his YouTube channel.
I’m going to see what he’s done here. Okay, very good YouTube channel. Here’s why.
He has his website. He has all of his social media here. You want to do that. Now, here’s his branding. Great. If you go look at my own channel. Okay. Let me see, view my channel. I think that’s where I am. Okay. You can see right here at the top that I have my value proposition right here, my website, social media, and there it went. Okay. You can see that I have everything that you should have on a channel. If you’re missing these types of things man, just add them. Go click up here, edit your links. You want to make sure your YouTube channel is ready to go to get customers.
Now, whenever you’re doing a video make sure you have the right title tag, description tags, and keyword tags. That is very important. You want to try to rank that video for relevant key terms. Okay? If you take a look at my videos. I’ll show you a quick example. I went and shot this really quickly with Tailor. This is a video that talks about what we do. It’s very simple. It’s just me talking and you can see, yeah, it gets a lot of views, good views, stuff like that. You’ll see I did a good title tag; Want to Drive More Leads, Sells, and Customers? Then you do a good description. Make sure your link’s in the description. Then, make sure you use the right key word tags. Got it?
3. Upload Your Video To Facebook
Next thing you want to do is jump over to Facebook, upload your video to Facebook. I did that here. I took that same video, I jumped over and uploaded it onto my Facebook feed right here. I’ve done a boost. I’ve just boosted, I actually ran an ad, but I’m driving them to a checklist. Make sure your videos always have a good, strong call to action. Make sure they have a good headline. You want them to do something. If they’re going to watch your video, don’t just have the video end without inviting them to do something. What I do is, I invite people to go get their free marketing checklist. That way, they get on my list. Got it?
4. Promote Your Video
Once it’s uploaded to Facebook, you’ve created a post. Then, basically it comes down to promotion. You want to make sure you take your videos and you actually promote them. Viral videos don’t just happen. They do get promoted. Remember that. You’re not shooting for a viral video. What you want to do is get your message in front of a target audience. You do that through Facebook ads. You can go onto Facebook, which we have tutorials you can check out. Go to Facebook. Run an ad to the exact people you’re looking for. YouTube ads. I showed to a few things you can do. You can run your ad on your competitor’s videos. You can run your ad on like industry. Say you’re a real estate agent. Well, you can go run your ads on loan officer’s videos. Post it on your blog, imbed it, and then send it all out to your email list. You have to promote a good video once it’s created. They don’t just work.
A lot of people go out there and they do get a video. Probably 85% of our clients on the WhyDraw site will go get a video, but then they don’t promote that video. That’s the big thing, you do need to go promote it. Got it? Those are your four things. Make sure you get a video. Upload that video to YouTube, get your YouTube channel created. Upload it to Facebook, do a post for it. Promote. Do a Facebook ads, do YouTube ads, post it on your blog, and none of this has to be expensive. $5 a day will get you a lot of traction. Like I said, you can get eight cent views, 12 cent views. Video marketing is extremely important. Especially if you are a small business owner.

I just finished speaking at a video marketing event in Florida and as I am flying home I want to introduce you to the 5 video marketing campaigns you should be running. Let me explain why I decided to write this.
During the event, my slides did not work, so I had to shoot from the hip and change up my presentation. I improvised. It ended up working because I pulled in some audience participation. I was stunned with their responses. I quickly learned that video marketing is STILL not being used.
Here is the first question I asked…
How many of you are running YouTube ads?
1 person in the whole audience raised their hand.
This was surprising because the audience was full of digital marketers and they are supposed to keep up on the latest and greatest.
Some of them actually own agencies.
How many of you are running Gmail video ads?
Nada, zero, zip, zilch. The crowd was silent.
Gmail Video Ads started to get popular back in 2015 and nobody was doing it.
I was stunned and a little baffled on what I was seeing
How many of you actually know anything about digital marketing?
They knew where I was coming from. They could see my disappointment and I had to give them a hard time.
1. YouTube Video Campaign. Both In-stream and In-display.
2. Gmail Video Campaign.
3. YouTube Remarketing Campaign.
4. Facebook Video Campaign.
5. Facebook Remarketing Campaign.
I am going to walk you through these 5 campaigns with video, so let’s get started.

We’re going to go over the five video marketing campaigns that I think every business should be running. This is part of a blog sequence where I discuss a little bit about where this came from. Here are five things that all businesses should be running. Not things, video marketing campaigns. The first thing is a YouTube video campaign, both in stream and in display. I’m going to show you what those are in a second. I think all businesses should be running a Gmail video campaign and YouTube remarketing campaign, a Facebook video campaign, and obviously a Facebook remarketing campaign.
If I bring over a browser, I jump over here to YouTube. It’s always good if you’re any type of business. Most businesses have competitors, so let’s say you’re in the pest control. Pest control. If you type in “pest control company,” a lot of times what you can do is you can play your video in front of your competitors’ videos. Some competitors don’t allow for videos, some do. What I like to do is I like to go down and find the videos that will allow you to play on them, and anything to do with pest control, we’re going to want to run your video on those videos. Simple thing to do. It costs maybe 8-12 cents a view, and they have to watch out past 30 seconds for it to be counted as a view.
If you have questions on that, there’s a ton other videos in our channel that you can look at to learn more about YouTube ads. You want to run in stream ads. Those are the ads that play in front of a video, and then you want to run in display ads. If you type in “cars,” type in … Knowing our luck, I’m not … Right up here, this one, High T Black Limited Offer, that is a display ad. That’s the first campaign that companies should be running.
The next one are Gmail video ads. Same concept. It’s just a way for you to get in front of your target audience. Jump over here to Gmail account. Right here under promotions are these Gmail ads. Right here, “Apply for a credit card.” Now, Gmail will take a look at what’s happening within your Gmail accounts, and they will serve you up an ad. They’re getting very good at this, at targeting things to what you like now. There’s always growing pains, but day by day they’re improving. Very smart to do, very few companies are doing this right now, and I don’t know why. My click-through rates, my conversion rates are extremely high on Gmail video ads.
Very simple to do. You set it up same place you set up your YouTube ads. It’s right there in the AdWords back office. We have other videos that if you want to take a look at, you can go check those out, that teach you how to set up Gmail video ads. Real quick, this is an image ad, you can actually stick your video right here, and they can watch it right within their Gmail. Another one, YouTube remarketing campaign, so how this works is let’s say you go to my YouTube channel. Well, this video right now. You’re watching this video, well what’s happening while you’re watching this video, you are getting a cookie or YouTube is keeping track of all the videos you’re watching. Now, I am building a list according to anyone who watches me videos, that way I can turn around and remarket to them, I can run them other types of videos.
Simple thing, very cost effective, very easy to do, so the third one is YouTube remarketing campaigns. Next is Facebook video campaigns and Facebook remarketing campaigns. Just like in Google, on Facebook you need to be cookieing your audience, you need to be tracking your audience, seeing how they interact with your webpage so that you can run them a remarketing campaign and we found that Facebook actually … Well, let’s just bring up a Facebook feed. If you can do Facebook video campaigns, it’s very effective. if I just scroll down through my feed, here’s one, this is [Doma 00:04:42], that’s an ad there. Gary Vaynerchuk, just fly down through here, let’s look at some ads. Here’s an ad where you can do a video ad right here where they can watch your video.
You can give them a message, once again very cheap. Now, the only problem … The big difference between Facebook and Google is the fact that if you start to watch a video, three seconds in, Facebook counts that as a view. Bad idea, but hey, we’ll live with it. Now, Google on the other hand, they aren’t going to count a view unless they watched 30 seconds. Still, very effective. You can do Facebook remarketing also if people have watched your videos. You can then turn around and remarket to them within Facebook. Let’s see if we can see one more sponsored ad. Okay. Real quick, here’s one. You click on this, it’s not an actual video, but here’s another ad, and this is just getting served up according to their interest, according to the audience they chose. Go it.
Very simple. Once again, just to repeat, these are five video campaigns that every business should be running. You’ve got a YouTube video campaign, both in stream and in display, Gmail video campaigns, YouTube remarketing campaign, Facebook video campaign, and Facebook remarketing campaign. Doesn’t need to be expensive. You can spend $5 a day on Gmail ads and get some pretty good results, $5 on YouTube, get some good views. Costs should be around 10 cents. Same with Facebook, Facebook remarketing, you don’t have to spend a lot. Now, the more you can spend, the better, so it’s always a good thing.

The key to generating exceptional video concepts, aside from style or goal, is to stick to a creative process that allows the story, rather than the story-telling medium to drive the respective results.
Consider the following when at your drawing board:
1) Content Gap Analysis:
What works for your niche? What’s already been done before?
2) Form Gap Analysis:
What kind of content is appropriate for your video concept? Is video truly the right medium for delivery?
3) Define Your Purpose:
What is the core purpose of your video? Does your video need to build up to the end point through bits of content or can it be revealed right away?
4) Develop your idea further:
Who exactly is your video’s target audience? Be as specific as you can, once you know your audience you can identify what style of content will work best in achieving your goals.
Content Gap Analysis
Video is an extremely valuable tool for businesses that have an online presence, but it isn’t always effective for every type of content and every type of business.
The typical downfalls of the creative process surface when a business decides to create a video prior to establishing whether or not their idea is relevant or appropriate for the content it will contain.
Unfortunately the common practice for video creation starts with the thought “we need a video, what can we say?” Rather than “we need an effective way to deliver tutorial content”.
Core content gaps are typically easy to identify. Usually they’re determined by the needs and desires of the target audience compared to the expertise and ability within your entity.
An excellent example of an abridged content gap is a demonstration video for a new beauty product. Most consumers want to know if a product works that they’ve never tried before. By producing a demonstrative video, consumers will feel confident purchasing this new product as well as excited to get their hands on it.

The decisions you make at this stage will determine what the appropriate technical and implementation will be for your video and the indicators at which you will track its success.
Develop Your Idea Further
All successful marketing videos are organically developed in terms of their style and type based on the core goals the creator has defined.
1) Brand Awareness
In order to improve brand awareness, your video needs to be memorably engaging. Meaning it needs to be extremely creative and fantastic enough to generate a buzz as a result of the content’s creative or informational value to the target audience. Featuring your video on social media sharing sites as well as YouTube will promote your video’s visibility tenfold. Instructional videos can come in the form of lectures, tutorials, tips, or visual guides which aren’t necessarily meant for a target audience alone, for example, a video recipe. Videos with useful or interesting information exist to serve or support a specific interest group or community.
In order to achieve success with these sites, you need to take into consideration what kind of people will actually be watching your video. Also consider that most of the people who will view your videos via video sharing sites are unlikely to have any prior knowledge of your brand or marketing efforts. That means that you will need to diligently work for their attention, ensuring every video creation is individually entertaining on it’s own.
3) Improving User Engagement
To improve user engagement your content will need to be thought provoking and provide further creative value to invite additional action after the viewer watches the video. A key factor of improving user engagement is to figure out exactly where to place the video on a page and how to optimize the users experience through the page design. Well place layouts encourage people to watch and respond to a video. Also, when launching the video content it’s important to leave space for comments so that viewers can comfortably interact with you- the host.
Technically Implementing Your Video
The three main aspects that need to be considered in regards to technical implementation are:
1) Hosting (The platform for your video)
2) On-site integration (How and where the video is placed on a web page)
3) Embedding (Where the video will be placed and what is around it)
Decisions in regards to technically implementing your video, should always be made with the style of the video content and your business goals in mind. A typical failure in video strategy is to think of embedding and hosting after creating and launching your video. The best practice is to figure out where it’s going and who the audience is before creating the content.
Hosting your video
There are two fundamental options for hosting your video, seeding it into a community such as YouTube, Vimeo, and other community sites, or securing the content on your site. Hosting your video on a community site will yield a greater increase in views and sharing while hosting it yourself will result in traffic directed through a search engine and shares linking directly to your site.
YouTube is primarily an option for building reputation, branding, and notoriety. It can help your video go “viral” and make your brand stand up and out. Constantly creating new content for YouTube is a great way to keep viewers engaged and “tuned in” to your channel. While YouTube is overall an effective video host, your brand should be creating content for other hosting options.
There are some distinct advantages and disadvantages to hosting with YouTube. But, I am telling you YouTube should be your hosting platform.
– Content is seen by the greatest number of viewers
– Content is indexed quickly and typically is ranked well
– Content is often shared; resulting in “viral” videos and increased return to branded homepage links
– Embedding the YouTube video on your page may rank your site with a video rich snippet
– YouTube may rank instead of your website, particularly if the content is extremely successful
Vimeo functions almost exactly the same as YouTube and has similar advantages and disadvantages. These communities support creative content and not heavy elements of commercial branding.
Hosting using third party services such as Vzaar, Wistia, or Brightcove are a more secure options for hosting video content that don’t require the resource of a player or cloud delivery system for the content.
– You have the choice of where content is embedded; this restricts the domains featuring the video, thereby ensuring any shared links go directly to your site
– Content will appear as unique content to Google and will make the page seem richer, therefore ranking higher
– Social shares and traffic can be driven to pages deeper within your website
– Your video will most likely not go “viral”
– Flash based embed codes are often required for indexing by Google, however these video hosts
– are often no mobile site friendly
Self-hosting is ideal for any business with the budget and time that wants to create videos for links or conversions. When self-hosted video content is seamlessly integrated with the rest of the page it appears as comfortably placed as one’s own left hand. It is time consuming and potentially expensive but it also allows for added creativity.
– You have the choice of where content is embedded; this restricts the domains featuring the video, thereby ensuring any shared links go directly to your site
– Social shares and traffic can be driven to pages deeper within your website
– You can put in place a video sitemap and schema ensuring pages are ranked with video rich snippets
– You are able to ensure content is mobile friendly
– Content will appear as unique content to Google and will make the page seem richer, therefore ranking higher
– You have the ability to add unique HTML5 elements including page actions triggered by point in the video
– Your video will most likely not go “viral”
Making the decision about where your video will be hosted should be primarily based on where the content will perform its best and meet your individual goals. Product videos with a dry tone, for example, will do poorly on YouTube. In turn, hosting a creatively fun video on your own site wouldn’t go “viral” like you would want it to. The way your content is embedded and promoted should essentially depend on your end goals for the content.
Technical Implementation for the Generation of Rich Snippets and Conversations
Integrating Video on Your Page
1) Only embed one video per page you want the rich snippet for.
When there is only one video on a page it clearly indicates to Google the image they should use as their thumbnail. Spreading your content across multiple pages also allows you to rank for several keywords.
2) Place videos on the pages which rank relatively well in organic search results. Do some research to determine which of your pages would really benefit from the addition of video content.
3) Make sure that the page you want to host your video is an appropriate entrance point for your conversion funnel.
This varies based on your site structure and business type, but typically an entrance that works would be a product page with a clear “add to cart” icon on the page.
4) Make sure the page is targeting a relevant keyword that’s likely to receive a video rich snippet.
Logon to Google and input the phrase or keyword you’re considering targeting in the search bar to see if any video snippets are currently ranking for the term. If any video results pop up, you can be certain that the video on your page does indeed have the potential to generate a rich snippet for that term in particular.
If no video results are returned, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your page wouldn’t rank with a rich snippet, especially if your targeted term is unsaturated or uncompetitive. In this case, thoroughly appraise the nature of your targeted term, your competition, and make a judgement as to the value of the keyword to figure out if it’s worth targeting.
As you’re brainstorming your possible keywords, consider framing your keyword with the following phrases around it. All of these typically will provide video results:
– What is___?
– Explanation of ___
– How to ___?
– Review of ____
After you’ve come up with a shortlist of relevant terms you may be able to get ranked with a rich snippet, input the terms into Google and choose the phrases with the highest search volume.
5) Prominently place the video on your page
Make sure that your video will be placed prominently on the desired page, with a frame size of at least 320 pixels wide, and ideally above the fold.
You may choose to self-host or use a paid secure hosting solution. If you choose to self-host, you will need to either use your own servers or utilize a cloud storage solution. Either will suffice and this choice comes down to preference.
Embedding for Success
1) Ensure your content cannot be embedded outside of your domain
Your site pages always have the best chance of ranking with rich snippets if you can keep the video content unique to your site. That gives Google only one single option of which page can rank for your video. On the same token, keeping your content exclusive to your site will also ensure that viewers whom wish to watch your video are forced to visit your domain which makes it easier to convert into a conversation.
The widely popular hosting solutions will allow you to delegate where your content can be embedded. Also make sure that your video player won’t display an embed button or code beneath the video so your content stays secure.
2) Embed your content with Flash and/or HTML5 and not an iframe.
In order to achieve this, double check the features of your paid hosting site. If you are self-hosting you may use a number of player options or alternatively build your own HTML5 and Jquery.
Technical Implementation for Building Links
The technical approach to building links does not vary greatly from that of improving rankings and conversions, but rather it is more an augmentation of that same implementation – however it is suitable for content that is likely to be shared and embedded.
Integrating Video onto Your Page
Video content that is tucked away in a corner is likely going to be ignored and be unseen. In the case of link building or any video marketing goal, that is the opposite of what you want to happen. Just as with any piece of link bait, the content needs to be placed somewhere visible with a good internal linking structure. For example, a large frame on the page (640px by 360px) will normally suffice and perform well.
If the video(s) you are creating are intended specifically for social shares and links, the content will generally have to be the primary (if not the sole) focus of the page they are on. It is good practice to build a page specifically for the link bait video.
The link bait page will also need to be well connected to the rest of the site through a good internal linking structure so that all links built to the video will also provide value to the site as a whole. All links pass Google’s system measuring value and authority, PageRank, so the better your site pages are connected to each other, the more internal PageRank they pass.
Similarly to the hosting approach for generating conversions and rich snippets, link building is significantly more successful when you self-host or use a third party solution. It is extremely important in this instance to not put the content on a video sharing community site like YouTube or Vimeo. Embedded and shared videos will only link back to the Vimeo/YouTube domain if shared through these platforms.
Embedding Your Video
1) Let your video be embedded anywhere and everywhere
In order to build links through embedding and sharing, you’ll need to allow your video to be viewed as many places as possible around the internet. This means you’ll have to remove any and all domain restrictions from your hosting service.
2) Come up with a custom CNAME for your video files

If you need to buy a camera in conjunction with filming a short piece and are on a restricted budget, there are many affordable options on the market.
One of the most important factors in producing solid quality footage aside from using the right camera, is setting up appropriate lighting for indoor filming. Your “studio” space needs to be extremely well lit. If you’re planning on filming a series of product videos or interviews within one single location, spending a chunk of money on a good quality set of lights can make the difference between excellent and poor quality content.
